What Is The Society?

The Memorial Advisory & Planning Society, M.A.P.S., is a non-profit, non-sectarian association of consumers, dedicated to informing its members and the general public about funeral practices. Members share the belief that simple and affordable funeral and memorial arrangements can best be achieved by careful planning. The Society was founded in 1965 and is one of more than 150 similar societies affiliated with the Funeral Consumers Alliance, Inc.

The Society is managed by ten directors elected by the members of the Society at its annual business meeting. These directors, in turn, elect the officers of the Society. The directors and staff serve without pay. Neither the Society nor any director is affiliated with a funeral home, crematory or cemetery.
Although the Society does not arrange funerals, it does assist its members in planning theirs.
